If you know you have an issue with travelling to Croydon, then maybe you should stop reading now (it will be your loss, however). For those of you with a bit more of an open mind, I've got something from you.
Lentil Soup and Bread
To start, I opted for the Soup of the Day, which happened to be my favourite soup ever - Lentil Soup!
It had a lot of bite to it. It was a thinner soup to what I was used to, and I also prefer red lentil soup as the lentils break up easier in the mouth, but this was a very pleasant starter. It was very flavoursome. The bread that accompanied it tasted fresh and was very fluffy.
Rigatoni alla Norma
Wow. The simplicity and gorgeousness of this dish. First of all, the fact that the pasta was al dente was enough to win me over. The tomato sauce the pasta was coated in was creamy and so well seasoned. It was so good, that I waste one drop of it. The last tube of pasta was what I used to scrape up the remnants of it.
If I didn't know that aubergines and pasta go well together, then I found out that day. The aubergine and the garlic turned this dish into something magnificent. Aubergines are very obedient vegetables that kind of bend to the other flavours of the components that are beside them. The consistency of the aubergines was as they always are when cooked for a long period of time - softish but with a bit of bite to them. So enjoyable to eat.
I'm not easily pleased when it comes to portion sizes at all, but I was very happy with the size of this dish. Had I not ordered a starter and a side dish, I probably still would have been satiated. I find that pasta is quite filling so not much is ever really required anyway.
I can't believe I am reviewing this - it is so random. On that day, I had really been thinking about mashed potatoes and that resulted in a strong craving. I had no idea that they were even on the menu until I arrived, so I did what I do best and over-ordered.
Very creamy - not a lump in sight. They were buttery not over whipped. The portion size was excellent. This side dish hit the spot.
Why do I think that Ponte Nuovo is a great date location? Let me give you three reasons why.
1. The restaurant is huge and is also home to a bar that you can visit after your meal.
2. Italian food. Romantic by default, I guess.
3. The ambience is lovely and calm, and the restaurant has a very classy feel to it.
